The following are ongoing programs that are at the core
of our mission:

Over the last two years, 30 YEARS AFTER has registered
over one thousand new and first-time voters in Los
Angeles. Our objective is to register to vote every
eligible member of the Iranian-Jewish community. |
For voter registration information, please visit the California
Secretary of State or contact info@30yearsafter.org
to request a voter registration form.
|
|
30 YEARS AFTER is currently collecting videotaped
stories and memories from the Iranian-Jewish community
about the preceding thirty years of the Iranian-Jewish
experience for future generations. |
Scheduled for publication in 2010 on DVD and at www.ourlegacyproject.org,
this oral history will honor and commemorate the sacrifice,
courage, and resilience of the Iranian-Jewish community.
With the steady passing of the community's pioneering
elders and the gradual emergence of its younger members,
30 YEARS AFTER seeks to document these inspirational stories
before they disappear from the community's collective
memory.

Having a voice in a democratic country requires
both access and knowledge. In order to have influence,
the Iranian-American Jewish community must create
relationships with our countrys leaders. However,
such power is meaningless, unless we are fully informed
of what policies exist and how they affect our lives,
our country, and the world around us. |
One of 30 YEARS AFTERs goals is to empower our community
in American politics. Throughout the past year, we brought
together thousands of young professionals for mixers with
elected officials and a debate forum about the presidential
election. At the end of 2008, 30 YEARS AFTER launched
the Power Brunch Series intimate members-only gatherings
with local, state, and national politicians. Featured
speakers at recent Power Brunches include: Los Angeles
City Councilmember Paul Koretz, community activist Adeena
Bleich, State Assemblymember Mike Feuer, and State Assemblymember
Jeff Miller.

In an effort to reach out and provide support
to the future of the Iranian-Jewish community, 30
YEARS AFTER has partnered with Jewish
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles and
Nessah
Israel Synagogue to develop the Young Iranian-Jewish
Leadership Program. |
This "mentorship program" matches Iranian-Jewish
high school students with young professionals from various
professional fields, and hosts monthly workshops on topics
ranging from college and career counseling to Jewish and
Zionist history. The pilot program, consisting of 10 mentors
and 10 mentees, was launched in March 2008. The program
provides the mentees with guidance and mentorship at an
important juncture in their lives and seeks to instill
in them, through the program's community service and social
action projects, a commitment to the Jewish values of
tikkun olam (repairing the world) and ahavat yisrael (love
of israel).
