As Iran moves closer to developing a nuclear weapons capability, we must
seize every opportunity to place economic and diplomatic pressure on the
Iranian regime. Please join a Los Angeles community-wide effort to advocate
for tougher federal sanctions and effective state, county, and city divestment
legislation. In addition, see below for a list of actions that we as individuals
and as a community can take to help prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.

Contact your Members of Congress and demand that they stand up to Iran
with tougher sanctions. Recently, the Iran Sanctions Enabling
Act of 2009 (H.R. 1327) passed in the U.S. House of Representatives
by a vote of 414 to 6. The bill authorizes state and local governments to
divest from any company that invests at least $20 million in Iran's energy
sector. Click
here to thank your representatives for supporting the bill and urge your
Senator to ensure swift passage of this crucial legislation...
Click
here to urge Congress to pass the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R.
2194). This bill would limit Iran's ability to import and produce refined
petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel. Please

Contact your local elected officials and demand that they support and
enforce divestment legislation. Our tax dollars-in pension funds and
city, county, and state contracts-should not support companies that continue
to do business with Iran. Strong divestment legislation that is enforced
effectively will make international corporations choose to do business either
with California and Los Angeles or with Iran. Recently, a group of elected
officials gathered to denounce
the regime in Iran and call for public pension funds at every level of government
to divest their holdings in companies that support the Iranian energy sector.
City Controller Wendy Greuel vowed to use her position as the city's chief
auditor to pressure the city's pension funds to liquidate Iranian-connected
investments. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky announced an Iran divestment
policy recently adopted by the county of Los Angeles Pension Board. Assemblymembers
Mike Feuer and Bob Blumenfield challenged CalPERS, the world's largest public
pension fund, to aggressively implement the state's divestment law. City
Councilmember Paul Koretz promised to lead the charge on the Los Angeles
City Council to slash city investments in the Iranian energy sector. Please
thank these elected officials for their leadership on this vital issue and
encourage other local leaders to join the divestment effort:

Boycott gas companies that continue to do business with Iran and
send letters to the executives of these companies to tell them you and your
friends will not buy gasoline from them as long as they continue to do business
with Iran. The two worst offenders are Shell Oil and Citgo.

Boycott and divest your personal investments from companies that continue
to do business with Iran. Call your stockbroker today and let him/her
know that you want to divest your personal investments from companies
doing business with Iran. Write to the executives of these companies and
let them know that you have divested from them because they are doing
business with Iran. Click

in business a year specifically in the Iranian energy sector and are,
therefore, subject to sanctions under existing law (the Iran Sanctions
Act of 1996). For a detailed list of companies that do business in Iran,
